Parking
Structure Example
It’s 10AM on a bright Monday morning and John, the facilities
manager at XYZ parking garage, is once again frustrated that
his entire parking structure has the lights running during
the daylight hours. He realizes that each one of those
fluorescent fixtures is costing him money to light up. He
also knows that there are large portions of his structure (especially
around the perimeter) that are already more than adequately
lit with free sun light. If only he could shut off those
exact fixtures during the day light hours he could realize
great savings on his energy bill. He tried to shut off
the circuits that feed power to those fixtures but that ended
up turning off many interior lights as well. The expense
of rewiring the structure to put the perimeter fixtures on
separate circuits was too prohibitive. He felt helpless
– forced to keep lights on that were not needed during the
day time. He just looked on in frustration watching those
lights come on each day wasting energy and money.
Then John discovered the GreenWorx Lighting Control System
by PCS. GreenWorx offered John the ability to separate
the perimeter lights from the interior lights without any rewiring. John
was told that GreenWorx uses a single photo-sensor to perform
the day light harvesting for him automatically. John
was impressed by GreenWorx’s simple system architecture that
uses the existing electrical power wires to control the system. He
decided to have a GreenWorx Lighting Control System installed. Installation
was much simpler than John imagined – one small module (similar
to a ballast) was wired into each light fixture. In a
matter of days John was happily watching those perimeter lights
automatically shutting off during the day light hours.
After installation John realized that there were additional
light fixtures that only needed to be 50% lit during the day
time. Since GreenWorx can control each individual ballast
of a dual-ballast fixture adjusting the system to meet those
requirements was easy. Without changing a single light
fixture or wire the GreenWorx setup software was used to add
those fixtures to the perimeter lighting zone. John also
added some keypad controllers to the system so that he could
manually control the system. Again the GreenWorx setup
software was used to configure what each button of each keypad
was to control.
Later, John realized that he could save even more money by
reducing the light level on some of his upper floors during
the low use hours such as weekends and after midnight. He
discovered that GreenWorx has a built-in weekly scheduler to
handle just about any scenario John can throw at it – even
holiday schedules!
John is extremely happy with his GreenWorx Lighting Control
System. It has already saved him more money than he originally
imagined. John is now thinking of new ways – such as
adding occupancy sensors and RF remote control – to use GreenWorx
to save him even more money.
